The Detailed Plan for Praça de Espanha in Lisbon, done in 2005, among other issues involved defining the location of the head offices of various institutions, with particular emphasis on the head offices of Montepio and Lusitânia Seguros.
The location then suggested, as shown here, also included a garden with a water feature set into the topographical depression connecting the inner core of the block defined by Avenida Malhoa, Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro and Praça de Espanha.
In urban terms this privileged location completed the block, emphasising the interpretation of Praça de Espanha at the start of Avenida Gulbenkian and communicating in spatial triangulation with the buildings of the Spanish Embassy and the Gulbenkian Foundation.
